n the approximately 100 hectares of land that extend around the hills of Agriturismo Bergi, the company produces and markets excellent Sicilian products. The Bergi Agricultural Company, not far from Castelbuono, one of the most characteristic ancient centers of the Madonie Park, is family-run with a strong female presence, in fact four young sisters: an agronomist, a food technologist, a communications expert and a biologist Agrichef, work in synergy, each with their own role and professionalism, under the wise parental supervision, sharing the passion for nature and carrying out the work with love and dedication.
The agriculture practiced is totally organic and certified by SUOLO E SALUTE. The company was born from the great passion for nature and the strong attachment to the territory. The objectives that have been handed down in our family for years are above all respect for the environment and the maintenance of biodiversity. For our productions we select only native raw materials from the Sicilian territory and from our Madonie Park.
Therefore the recovery of fruit and vegetable varieties for the creation of food awareness helps us in valorising the products. The main company products are honey, EVO oil, manna and traditional preserves such as jams, compotes, etc.
The company works with the Sicilian Apis mellifera and is one of the producers of Sicilian Black Bee Honey, a Slow Food Presidium.
The APE NERA SICULA Presidium was started to draw attention to the species and raise the alarm about the risk of extinction of this native breed. the company also joined the "Project for the reintroduction and conservation of the subspecies at risk of extinction Apis mellifera sicialiana" financed by the Sicily Region and followed by the CRA-API of Bologna in collaboration with Slow Food, the University of Catania and Palermo , the Zooprophylactic Institute of Sicily, the Soat of Collesano, the Amodeo company. The project involves the search for new genetic lines, essential to combat the most serious problem of this breed (inbreeding), the establishment of fertilization stations in isolated places and the evaluation of the performance of the Sicilian black in comparison with the ligustica.
The beekeepers who breed it have in fact found the almost total lack of deaths in Sicily, the greater resistance to high temperatures and diseases, qualities linked to the fact that the Sicilian black bee has acclimatised over the centuries to a hot and difficult territory, taking advantage of resistance guaranteed by his African origin. From this point of view, the company manages a fertilization station on the island of Lampedusa. Another characterizing product of the company's production is Amaro Bergi and Manna.
Amaro Bergi comes from an exclusive and ancient family recipe and is highly digestible thanks to the presence of Manna. Unique and inimitable taste due to the addition of wild herbs that grow in the Madonie Park such as nepetella. It is pleasant to enjoy it on any occasion, it is excellent neat, with ice, with seltzer, in coffee and on ice cream.
Manna is a product obtained from the solidification of the sap that comes out following the cutting of the bark and ash trees. Manna is produced only in Castelbuono and Pollina (PA).
